What kind of technology do they use?

Fibre Optic Broadband

There are two kinds of fibre optic connection. There’s Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) and Fibre To The Premises (FTTP), also known as Fibre To The Home or FTTH. The former offers speeds that eclipse those attainable with ADSL. However, because connections are shared in a cabinet, users will experience erratic performance during peak hours when other users in the cabinet are also trying to get online.
This is why Community Fibre exclusively offers FTTP broadband to its customers. Because you have a direct connection in your home, you don’t have to worry about fluctuations in performance during peak times. It also means you don’t need to bother with the cost of renting a line from Openreach.

Does Community Fibre offer a minimum speed guarantee?

While Community Fibre has some of the fastest speeds on the market, it does not yet offer a minimum speed guarantee like its competitors BT, Plusnet and TalkTalk.

Not many providers offer the kind of direct connection provided by Community Fibre. While there are lots of providers that offer Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC), only a handful of ISPs can deliver a direct full-fibre connection to the premises.

Not only do Community Fibre offer lower monthly costs, there are also savings o be made on set up fees compared to larger providers. Community Fibre’s contracts are a little longer than most at 24 months. However, once your contract expires, you’ll experience less of a jump in price compared to other providers.

Community Fibre vs Hyperoptic: Which is better?

Community Fiber and Hyperoptic essentially use the same technology to bring lighting-fast FTTP connections to homes and businesses in London. However, Community Fibre out-performs Hyperoptic in a number of ways:

  • Top speeds of 3Gbps is 3x faster than Hyperoptic’s fastest offering
  • Although CF’s cheapest offering has symmetrical upload and download speeds, Hyperoptic’s 50Mbps package throttles upload speeds at 5Mbps.
  • CF has TV packages, while Hyperoptic does not
  • CF has a slightly higher Trustpilot score at the time of writing.

Do you need a landline for Community Fibre?

No. Because Community Fibre exclusively offers Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) connections, you don’t need to rent a line from Openreach. That said, you can still get landline call packages via VoIP. You can even keep your existing phone number.

How do I change my Community Fibre WIFI password?

What is the Community Fibre cancellation fee?

Community Fibre charges a flat cancellation fee of £30 <em>plus</em> you’ll need to pay any outstanding charges left on your minimum term. 

When does my Community Fibre contract end?

All except Community Fibre’s 3 Gigafast plans have a choice of contract lengths. You can choose 24 months, 12 months or 30 days. After this time you will receive an end of contract notification after which you can change to a new provider or plan without needing to worry about cancellation fees. 

Does Community Fibre provide emails?
