With its countless adverts famously starring Kevin Bacon, you’re likely aware of EE’s services. Formed when Orange UK and T-Mobile merged in 2010, EE runs the UK’s biggest and fastest mobile phone network. It was not only the first UK mobile carrier to offer 4G, but also the first to launch 5G services, which it did in 2019.

EE offers more than just mobile services, with an extensive range of broadband deals. This includes standard copper connections, as well as fibre or even Full Fibre deals. You can even choose a 4G-powered mobile broadband solution from EE.

Between its broadband and mobile offerings, there are many options with EE. It can be tough to choose the right deal for you, however. Thankfully, we can help! In this guide, the Broadband Plans team will help you decide whether EE is the right broadband or mobile provider for you.

Why choose EE?

Although EE is one of the cheaper broadband providers on the market, it offers far more than reasonable prices. Its range of home broadband deals is varied, allowing you to choose the connection type your household needs – whether that’s a standard ADSL connection, superfast fibre broadband, or even gigabit Internet. Whatever your preferred speed, EE allows its customers to bundle their broadband services with landline and TV services. You’ll also get a free Smart Hub router with any EE fibre broadband deal – and it’s a pretty fast and powerful router, too.

If you’re interested in EE’s mobile services, you’ll be glad to hear that its network coverage is impressive. Over 99% of the UK population live in areas with EE 4G coverage, and over 193 UK cities and towns can access 5G speeds on EE’s network. What’s more, you can access a range of extras as an EE mobile customer – including free subscriptions to Apple Music or BT Sport.

Choosing EE as your broadband provider and also your mobile carrier will earn you an extra 5GB or 20GB of free mobile data, depending on your plan. You can also rely on EE’s UK-based customer service team, who have high satisfaction ratings among EE’s consumers.

EE broadband speeds

EE offers a wide range of broadband speeds, from humble 10Mbps broadband to gigafast, future-proof 900Mbps connections. Generally speaking, you’ll pay more for faster speeds, but this is likely worthwhile to meet your household’s broadband speed needs.

Here are the average download speeds you can expect from the different EE broadband deals:

EE Broadband Speeds
EE broadband deal Average download speed
Standard Broadband 10Mbps
Fibre Broadband 36Mbps
Fibre Plus Broadband 67Mbps
Fibre Max 100 Broadband 145Mbps
Fibre Max 500 Broadband 500Mbps
Fibre Max Gigabit Broadband 900Mbps

Note that EE’s Fibre Max packages all use a Full Fibre or fibre to the premises (FTTP) to deliver faster speeds. These ultrafast broadband connections aren’t yet widely available, as EE is still expanding its Full Fibre network across the UK.

Key features of EE services

Here is a quick summary of what you can expect from EE:

  • EE has a number of home broadband packages available at varying speeds, with its fibre packages including a Smart Hub that provides connectivity throughout your home.
  • Although its TV services aren’t as extensive as those of BT or Sky, you can bundle TV services with EE broadband plans – namely an Apple TV 4K subscription including BT Sport.
  • If EE provides both your broadband and mobile services, you can receive an extra 5GB of mobile data – or 20GB extra if you have an EE Fibre Max connection.
  • As it uses the Openreach network, EE’s fibre broadband plans are widely available across the UK.
  • You can get Full Fibre deals from EE, including one with gigabit speeds – but these connections aren’t yet available UK-wide.
  • EE’s mobile network offers over 99% 4G coverage and ever-increasing 5G availability.
  • Unlike many of its competitors, EE has a well-reviewed, UK-based customer support team.
  • EE’s mobile plans often come with free bonuses, such as Apple TV or Netflix subscriptions. You can also get a free year of Norton Security Premium with your EE broadband contract.

EE offers broadband, TV, phone, and mobile services – and you can get many of these together as a bundle. You’ll find a wide range of contracts and deals to suit your needs – so whether you need a very basic Internet and landline connection or gigabit-ready broadband, EE’s got you covered.

If you’re looking for an EE broadband connection, these are your best options.

Note that landlines aren’t mandatory for any EE fibre broadband deal – although you can add one in with a call plan by paying extra. However, EE’s Standard Broadband deals always include a landline.

EE broadband-only offers

These days, you’ll find that a large majority of broadband customers also have a mobile phone – so home phones aren’t so necessary anymore. As a mobile carrier, EE recognises that broadband customers may not want a landline – which is why its fibre deals don’t include mandatory landlines. Keep in mind that it’s not possible to add in a landline if you’ve got an EE Full Fibre package.

With that said, here are the best EE broadband-only options:

EE broadband and TV packages

You won’t find the most extensive and diverse TV offerings with EE. Unlike Sky, BT, and Virgin Media, EE can’t offer the same range of live TV channels. However, you can add Apple TV 4K services onto your deal, allowing you to stream the latest Apple TV originals or even live BT Sport programming from your Apple TV set-top box. This box also allows you to access other streaming apps, such as BBC iPlayer and Disney+.

These are the best broadband and TV deals from EE. Note that these are EE’s usual range of broadband deals with an extra £15 per month included to reflect the cost of the Apple TV 4K service.

EE broadband and phone deals

If you’d like a landline from EE, you’ve got a few options. The first is its ADSL broadband package, which includes a landline as standard – so you can’t get it without a phone line. Alternatively, you can add a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) landline connection to a fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) EE deal for an extra £2.28 per month. These extra landline fees are included in the monthly costs of the below deals, except for the ADSL option, which comes with a PAYG landline as standard.

EE mobile-only deals

EE provides plenty of mobile-only options, including SIM-only plans and device contracts.

As the name suggests, SIM-only deals just include an EE SIM card and a set data allowance for each month. Generally speaking, you’ll pay extra for more data, but shorter contract lengths of 12 months will tend to cost more for less data. Regardless of contract length or data allowance, you won’t pay any one-off fees for an EE mobile-only deal. Here are the best options available:

EE broadband, TV, and phone deals

Although EE doesn’t promote any combined broadband, TV, and phone deals, you can build your own broadband deal with Apple TV 4K and landline add-ons. Apple TV 4K is available to add to any broadband deal, but note that you can’t receive a landline with a FTTP deal.

How do I switch from EE to another provider?

Here are the steps to follow to cancel your EE contract and switch broadband and mobile providers:

  1. Check your minimum contract term. If you’re cancelling before this period ends, you’ll face early exit charges for the remaining months of your contract.

  3. Select a broadband activation date to receive Wi-Fi from your new provider.

Note that switching to a provider on a different network (e.g. Virgin Media) requires you to manually cancel with EE. You can cancel your EE contract by calling 0800 079 0544 – and remember to give EE 30 days’ notice.

If you’d like to exit an EE mobile plan, sign up with your new mobile carrier. You can then call 150150 from your EE phone or call 07953 966 250 from any phone to request switching information, including details of any cancellation charges.
