There are many different types of BT broadband packages, so you can easily get overwhelmed when searching for deals! Luckily, we’ll help you discover the right package for your household with our detailed guide, which covers BT broadband bundles and reviews.

What does BT broadband offer?

Although BT doesn’t offer the fastest service on the market, or the cheapest, it still has a lot to offer as a provider. BT broadband runs on the Openreach network, so it’s widely available across the UK.

BT offers both standard asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) and fibre broadband, with packages that should satisfy everyone. You can choose from a variety of deals to find Internet speeds that work for your household – from basic 10Mbps download speeds to ultrafast speeds of 900Mbps. Whether you use the Internet for simple tasks such as checking emails or you need a broadband connection built for HD streaming, you’ll find a suitable package with BT.

You can bundle your BT broadband package with landline or TV services, too. This can save you money and simplify your monthly bills, as BT can provide all these features through one contract. However, if you only want Internet access, you can choose a broadband-only plan without phone or TV services.

BT broadband customers can also enjoy BT’s Virtual Reward Cards, which provide extra features besides your home Wi-Fi. This includes cloud storage, cybersecurity software, Xbox Game Passes, and access to BT Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide.

How to find the best BT broadband deal for you

As each household has different needs, there is no BT broadband deal that’s perfect for everyone. To find the right deal for you, consider these aspects of BT’s broadband packages:

Find the Right BT Package for You
Factor Why it matters
Monthly price You’ll need to ensure you can afford the monthly payments.
Overall price Monthly costs may change during your contract, increasing the overall price.
One-off costs You may need to pay one-off costs at the start of your contract, such as installation or activation fees.
Contract length If you can’t commit to the full contract, you may face early cancellation fees.
Broadband speeds Your chosen broadband deal should provide Internet speeds to suit your household’s needs.
Type of fibre broadband Some deals, especially Full Fibre ones, may not be widely available yet.
TV or phone bundles BT can combine broadband, TV, and/or phone services in bundles. This is usually cheaper than paying for each feature separately.
Free bonuses Some deals may include free bonuses, such as included bill credit or vouchers.

What’s the difference between BT broadband and BT superfast fibre?

Standard BT broadband only uses ADSL copper phone lines to deliver your home broadband connection. However, BT superfast fibre uses FTTC technology, meaning that you receive Internet access via high-speed fibre-optic cables to your nearest street cabinet. After this point, data travels between the cabinet and your property via copper cables.

Basic BT broadband is much slower than BT’s superfast deals, offering speeds of 10Mbps. By choosing a BT superfast package, you can access speeds of 36, 50, or 67Mbps depending on your preferred deal. Essentially, BT superfast fibre is much faster – and more reliable, too.

Customer service representatives

BT broadband customer service and reviews

In modern times, it’s essential to have a decent broadband connection – and if it fails, you’ll need support. Before signing your contract, consider the reputation and reviews of BT customer service.

How good is BT’s customer service?

Although the reviews for BT broadband customer service are mixed on independent review sites such as Trustpilot, BT mostly performs slightly above its competition. This means BT customers are more satisfied with its customer service. According to a a recent report by Ofcom , 88% of BT customers were satisfied with BT’s customer service which was more than any other major provider.

BT broadband customer service reviews

Although Ofcom’s report suggests that BT provides a high quality of customer service, reviews from BT customers are often more critical. Based on over 11,000 reviews, BT scores just 1.6/5 stars on Trustpilot – which is considered ‘Bad’.

Here is an example of a recent five-star Trustpilot review for BT:

“I spoke with Catherine both via Twitter and on the phone. She sorted my issue quickly and reassured me of my worries regarding it. Really prompt and friendly service with your social media team.”
-Luna

And here is a recent one-star Trustpilot review for BT:

“Do not use BT for broadband if you can help it. It’s fine when it’s working but when it’s not, the customer service is appalling and the outages are ridiculously long with no updates unless you proactively ask!”
-John

How do I contact BT broadband customer service?

The BT broadband contact number is 0800 800 150 or 150 from a BT mobile. Alternatively, you can talk to its team via live chat available on the BT website.

How do I switch to BT broadband?

If you’re switching from another provider on the Openreach network, BT can cancel your previous contract for you. However if you’re switching from a supplier that isn’t, you’ll need to contact that supplier first.

How to save money with BT deals

There are a few ways you could save money on a broadband deal:

  • Haggle with BT staff over the phone – emphasising that its rivals are cheaper may work!
  • Opt for a deal without a landline if you’d barely use a home phone. Doing this can save you at least £5 per month.
  • Refer a friend to BT broadband after signing up, as BT may reward you with a £50 Amazon voucher.

How do I cancel BT broadband?

If you’re switching to another provider on the Openreach network, such as Sky or TalkTalk, your new provider will cancel your BT broadband contract for you. Before switching, note that you may face early cancellation fees if you cancel before your contract’s minimum period expires.

However, you’ll need to contact BT on 0800 783 1401 if you’re moving to a broadband supplier outside of the Openreach network – such as Virgin Media or Hyperoptic. You’d also need to call this number if you’re cancelling and not switching. Be sure to notify BT about your plans at least 30 days in advance.
